I thought I had this radio fixed, but alas, another glitch. I have replaced the 6x5G tube, the electrolytics and all paper caps up to this point.

I am getting crisp clear beautiful reception of 1540 AM (a local station) on the shortwave 1 band. I am also picking up a few short wave stations on this band.

The AM band is completely dead.

This particular unit has an external 6 button tuner for the automatic band. When I turn the band selector to Automatic, I get static. And now for the freaky Halloween stuff....When I touch the external tuning unit with my fingers, I hear an AM station.

I have traced circuits and compared them to the schematic until I was wore out. Any thoughts on where to look.

Thanks

Brad.

Hi Brad

Check coils used for the broadcast band. One may be open. Be sure band switch contacts have been cleaned.

The only difference between short wave and broadcast should be coils. Broadcast requires more turns than shortwave. Look for a broken wire if one checks open.

Hi,
You may also happen to have one of the pushbutton styles where there is one dedicated to the dial, and that would then need to be pushed in for the manual dial to be used for tuning.

If the buttons are only momentary contact, this would not be that type.
