Replacing audio transformer on a speaker
8/14/2002 7:52:32 PMJ-F
Hi, I have a Northern Electric model 610 tube radio. The 6F6 audio output tube is good, speaker is good (about 3,6 ohms at ohmmeter) but audio transformer is open. I want to replace it but I don't have any infos or number on transfo. I have to match impedance between tube (about 7000 ohms) and speaker (3.6 ohms). I'm in the right way?

Thanks!

Hi J-F

For a 6F6 you need a 7000 ohm impedance. Secondary is probably 8 ohms impedance. This isn't the same as resistance on an ohm meter. The transformer should have at least a 5 watt rating.

Play Things Of Past, oldradioparts.com and AES, tubesandmore.com should both have them.
