Philco 48-250
8/11/2002 6:41:34 PMBill Streib
Hello,
I have a Philco model 48-250 table top radio that used to belong to my deceased father-in-law that I thought about restoring. Everything seems to be ok tube wise but the electrolytic filter capacitor is bad and the markings are no longer legible. It is a 3 section filter. Do you have any idea what capacity it might be along with the working voltages? The tube lineup is as follows:

7A8, 35Z5GT, 50A5, 14BY7, 14A7

Also do you know where I might find a schematic for such radio?
Thanks!

Hi Bill

The schematic can be found at:

http://ww3.nostalgiaair.org/schematics/PHL/_PHL_18-52.gif

Change 18-52 to 18-51 etc to get other pages from Rider. Wait 30 seconds between selections.

The filter cap is 30/25/20 @ 150 volts. You can use 33 @ 160 volt caps as replacement for each section.

Hi,

The schematic is the last two url's.
As for the values of the caps, they are listed on the schematic as 30, 25 and 25 microfarads, but a 33 and two 22 microfarads will work fine. Digi-key has the newer electrolylitic types which easily fit under the chassis, or even inside the old filter cap once it is cleaned out of the old contents.
And the working voltage of the new caps should be 160WVDC, or even 200/250 WVDC. If you want the old style can cap with multiple sections, AES carries some old stock, as well as some new manufacture units.
