Your radio, 84KR2510A, was made in 1948 as shown by reversing the first two digits of model number. Collectors Guide to Antique Radios lists the radio as being worth $75-$85.
Shouldn't be hard to fix if you have a volt/ohm meter. Clean out dust and look for burnt/damaged parts first.

:inherited this radio from my grandmother, and would love to get some information about it. it is mounted under a small table and, when you pull down on the facia, the radio rotates down. only one dial, so i presume only am. may have been built by rca for montgomery wards. any value other than sentimental? worth fixing to working order? (cabinet and guts appear pristine) how complicated a fix? any information appreciated.
any suggestions welcomed. thanks agsain.

The schematic can be found at:

Notice part parked C-10A, C-10B and C-10C. This is a single unit with 4 connections in your radio. It's an electrolytic filter cap, will dry out, causing hum.
Other than a volt/ohm meter and soldering iron only tools needed will be screwdriver, pliers, tools found in most homes.
John may have a better idea on books. Since you have an understanding of electricity it won't be hard. You might read other posts on nostalgiaair.org and antiqueradios.com .

::many thanks -- i have the basic tools and comfort doing home wiring or lamps and such, but have never worked with capacitors, tubes, etc. is there a good book or particularly good on-line resource that i could use to guide me through the basics of diagnostica and restoration? can i do this without a substantial investment in new tools?
