Philco 41-608 Output Transformer

Does anyone know where I can get the specs on the output transformer for my 41-608? The secondary is shorted and I need to find a replacement, I guess.
The part number on the side of the transformer is 436-861, in the manual it is listed as 32-8133. Any help would be much appreciated...

Hi Jason

The secondary DC resistance of an output transformer is very low, usually 3 or 4 ohms. When bad the primary usually opens. Your transformer may be ok?

If you need another transformer, here is some detail. Your radio uses push-pull 41 tubes. They should feed into a primary impedance of 12,000 ohms, plate to plate. Secondary impedance will be 8 ohms. This is not DC resistance as read on an ohm meter. DC resistance will be much lower.

Thanks Norm. I've been struggling with this output issue for a while now. The radio does produce a minute amount of sound (you have to put your ear next to the speaker to hear) and when the volume is turned all the way up it sounds overdriven, as if it is passing the signal along. When I tested the secondary of the output there was virtually no resistance at all...maybe 1/2 ohm? I just figured that this was probably the issue. Anyway, thanks for your help! Any other suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks!

Hi Jason

Check plate voltage on your 41 tubes, pin #2 (positive). Voltage on pin #4 of both 41 tubes should be near zero, not positive. Measure 7C6 pin #2 voltage, (positive).

Touch pin #3, grid of 7C6. This will cause loud hum if the audio section is operating properly.

Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely re-check the voltages you mentioned just to make sure everything else is okay. I did do the hum test again on the grid of 7C6. I got a very, very quiet hum. I was just wondering, though, do you know what the output's secondary resistance should be? It is sitting at .2 ohms. It seems awfully low...

The DC resistance of your output transformer will be very low. It's not many turns of heavy copper wire. At least heavy comparred to primary. Depending on size of this wire resistance will vary. I just measured the secondary of a Stancor A-3877. It only measures .2 ohms. Don't worry about it reading low.

an extra transformer from a 41-608 parts chassis -
I'm restoring a 41-608 so I have the two chassis -

Let me try that again. One of my neighbors just throw out their 41-608, but not before I asked them if I could have it from the pile. How rare is it or is it not worth redoing?? Thanks in advance.
