I have a Philco Refrigerator. Model no. A-621, serial no. 5159338, style RA. Believe it or not it is still in working order. I wanted to know how old it was and if it was worth anything. Any ideas?

Hi,
There might be a "boiler plate" on the refrigerator somewhere, either in the door opening, on the door, by the compressor, or on the compressor that should have the manufacturing date.

If you are going to store it for any length of time, keep it plugged in. Hydrochloric acid sometimes forms within the refrigerant lines if moisture was present. Believe it or not, those old refrigerators were made to last a long time, and they were made to be serviced- unlike todays units. Their only real failing is that they only had minimal fiberglass for insulation. A real collector wanting to cut energy bills might consider injecting some of the new eurethane foams into the cabinet spaces to get better insulation performance.

I am not overly familiar with Philco numbering of refrigerators, but if yours has the condensing coils on top of the refridgerator- Just like the Kramden's in the "Honeymooners", yes those bring good money, but there is some regional variation in values.

If it is just the contemporay 1940's/1950's styling, they are not as popular yet, so those values vary quite a lot.
