I have a 1928 16-B Canadian Westinghouse. when I check the grid on detector tube for a resistance or continuity, I don't get a reading. Is this normal or do I have something gone open?

Hi Bill

Most radios have a 1 - 5 meg grid leak resistor. Can your meter read this high? Some of these resistors do open over time.

Hi,
One way of testing those high values when your DMM, or other meter will only read to slightly more than 1 meg is to put a known value resistor in parallel with the high resistance grid leak, and calculate from the resulting reading what your resistance should be. If the grid leak is open, your resistance will remain unchanged, but even a grid leak that has shifted in value to 10 meg will yield a parallel resistance than the known value.

Use a 1meg resistor for the parallel resistance.
