Silvertone 4587A

Hello,

I am need of a little assistance, if possible. My wife and I inherited an old radio that we are considering restoring. It is an old Silvertone 4587A console radio. I think its from around 1937, but I am not sure. It has aq very nice veneer wood finish. The dial looks rather complex, with SW and broadcast bands, as well as foreign bands from all over the world. I just need to know the financial ramifications and costs involved in resotration. As far as I can tell, all of the tubes work. The tuner needs to be restrung, the grill cloth replaced, and the speaker reconed. If this is all I need to do, would the resulting functioning radio (which is in nice original condition) be valued enough to be worth the cost?

I really like this radio, and would like to do these modest repairs, but I need to be able to justify the costs involved.

At any rate, thank you very much!

Sincerely,

Seech

Hi Seech

If you do the work yourself and there isn't much wrong cost can be a few dollars to replace filter caps. Beyond that a person would need to know if anything else is wrong. You can ask questions on the forum.

Having someone else do the work will add cost. Restringing a tuner is usually easy. Reconing a speaker may cost $50? You might be able to find a replacement? AES, tubesandmore.com and others sells parts & grill cloth.
