A tube becomes shorted when one element touches another. This condition can damage other components in your radio.
A short on a tube tester is generally leakage between elements. As tubes operate carbon is deposited on mica insulators, between elements. This gives a leakage path which can cause a tube to draw excessive current.
Depending on where this leakage is located it can cause hum or distorted sound. Some leakage paths will not effect sound quality.

:Hi Guys
: I have what most of you might call a dumb question, but here goes: How does a tube become shorted and what will it affect? Does it make the audio sound different? I just replaced the 6F6's in my RCA 811K because they tested shorted on my GE TC-3 tester. Thanks, Justin
