Your Emerson AL130 uses an 8 1/64 - 8 3/16" circumference belt. CG replacement number is 104, JFD number 59.
You might try a store that carries VCR belts? Hardware stores carry O-Ring material. You can make your own.
Dial cord doesn't have enough tension unless a spring can be added.

:This is a new one on me, but I am sure some of the hands on board know about this: I've acquired an Emerson AL-130 that uses a belt (?) to drive the tuning cap. It looks like three layers, or three-times-around with some sort of tape. In any case, it is starting to come apart (one end is free), and it doesn't tune thru the whole capacitor range. More tension (a bigger block of wood under the spring) didn't help. I guess it's just worn out. Is there an acceptable substitute belt? Would dial cord work? What is the usual "fix"? Thanks in advance.

CG and JFD are companies that made replacement belts. You might be able to find one of these?

:Norm,
:Thanks for the info. One more good reason to hang out at the hardware store this morning. What is the significance of the "CG" and "JFD" numbers? Not familiar with the reference.

Thanks. I'll see what I can do.
