Simpson 260-8 VOM

Obtained the subject meter, which is working for resistance measurement only. Looking for assistance with identifying the component(s) that may have failed, resulting in the meter not working for voltage measurement. Also, if anyone has a circuit diagram and/or board layout with component values, that would be appreciated too. Feel free to e-mail me at jjguarino@hotmail.com.
Thank you, Joe.

Hi,
Check to see if it has a fuse, it may have blown. Also there is coil that most often burns out on those. Check that ugly little wad of wire on the back side of the meter to see if you get a low resistance, or if it is open. Simpson sells a replacement coil, or you can wind your own from resistance wire.

Hi John:
Thanks for the reply. The fuses were in good condition. I could not locate the little wad of black wire you spoke of. Where is it located? I checked the wire wound resistors, they seem to be in good condition. Any help is again appreciated. Thanks, Joe.

Hi,
Actually the little ugly wads of wire are kind of a pink, or off-white color.

There are actually 2 of them, they are sometimes under a cover, sometimes not, but they are at the back of the selector switch. If the selector switch itself is in good shape, the fuses are in good shape, check the connection quality of the 4 AA cells. Also check their condition. If the wads of wire show continuity, with a good switch, and the rest of the mechanical aspects of the prods and sockets, the batteries may be at fault, and if the batteries are new, check to make sure thye have correct polarity.
