Silvertone Stereo

I recently was given an old Sears silvertone Stereo Hi Fi model# 2075 from my kids. It worked great for a couple of days but the turntable started to run slower and slower fimally it stopped. It also developed today a loud buzzing sound in ths speakers that is persistent no matter what position the unit is in. Can any one vine me some suggestions? I have the back of the unit off and have inspected the tubes they all look to be ok but I am not sure.

Hi,
It could be a couple of things, but I would look at the mode switch/band switch, because it may have fallen apart internally- You did not state if AM or FM were still heard over the hum (if they do not, look here first). Another probable culprit is the filter caps. One less likely but still possible problem could be with one or two of the "fusible" resistors (The rectangular things that look like little blocks of concrete).

While it is possible that the turntable motor itself siezed, that would not account for the hum across all switch positions, but it is possible that the motor was binding enough to burn out a fusible resistor if the turntable had one or two of these in series with the windings.
