i have found about 10 glass-cased Willard batteries in an old clock tower.. i know the building was made in 1921, and was wondering where i could find information about these batteries.. all they say on them is Willard Torrence Battery Co. and the patent number..

Hi Matthew

Willard made rechargeable batteries for easly radios. I have ad's for their batteries in 1924 Radio News magazines. Early radios were operated off batteries and not plugged into AC. AC operated radios started around 1927.

Hi,
If the glass cases are marked with a date older than 1923 or 1924, there is a good possibility they were used in early telephone equipment in the area if electricity was not available to that area prior to 1924 or so, especially if they are about the size of a 10 gallon aquarium on end.

Either way, they are a nice find.
