tele-tone tv-149

Hello,
I need some help with this set please. I have replaced all the electrolytics, faulty wax caps, drifting resistors and faulty tubes. Problem, someone was inside the set and started to rewire and cut and reconnect. I need to know the pin out numbering on the pic tube starting from the key because I have tried to remove the connector, but I could not and I didn't want to force it off and break it. If I have this I can trace back to the proper points under the chassis. When the set is powered up with a variac I only get a 1" by 1" deflection. I can't tune into a station either, also after replacing the caps in the high vol supply I can't check for the 5kv reading because I don't have a meter for this high of voltage. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Peter

Hi Peter

Teletone TV-149 uses a 7JP4 picture tube. Base wiring is 14R. Looking from the base and counting clockwise - Pin #1 filament, Pin #2 cathode, Pin #3 grid 1, Pin #5 anode 1, Pin #7 deflection 3, Pin #8 deflection 4, Pin #9 anode 2, Pin #10 deflection 1, Pin #11 deflection 2, Pin #14 filament. Others not used.

A small 1" picture either indicates poor deflection or excessive high voltage. Don't operate the TV if your picture is bright.

You should be able to make a high voltage probe for 5KV. Use you meters highest scale and add a large value resistor in series with the probe. It should be 2 watt or resistor designed for high voltage. Measure a known voltage and notice where it reads. Then measure the high voltage. Resistor value is dependent on meter sensitivity.

:Thank you for the quick response. I will keep you posted on the results. As for the brightness of the picture it's not. I can use all the controls and they seem to be working properly. I can even control the brightness its just the size os the picture as stated above.
