I got a Philco 38-8 at an auction for $40, good deal??? When I plug it in the tubes glow, slowly getting brighter but there's no sound. How can I make it work?

You got a good deal. The radio is worth around $100.00.

You may want to start by looking for any visual problems after removing the chassis from the cabinet. Do you have a volt/ohm meter? You will need a meter to check voltages in the radio.
