Hello gentlemen
I have a Northern Electric model 5200 which gets no reception on the lower half of the dial. As I tune down the dial, at about mid point it will crackle then fall silent. If I rock the dial back and forth within the lower half I can hear some crackling also.
Anybody know whats going on here?

I would suggest having a close look at the tuning capacitor to make sure the the plates are not bent and shorting out as you turn it to the place where reception is lost. Also look for foreign particles that could be in it shorting it out.

Thanks Ed.. some tuner spray and a lot of compressed air cleared up that problem. I have noticed another though, there is a hum between stations.
Any thoughts?
