Zenith Royal 7000 Case Removal
6/13/2001 3:16:18 PMDoyle Paynter
I need to know how to remove the chassis from a 7000.
I have a good case with a bad radio and a bad case
with a good radio and I would like to swap between them. Has anyone ever done this? How do you get the
tuning knob off?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Doyle,

All five knobs on the front are friction fit to half-round shafts and just pull straight off.

Close the front doors and lay the radio face down on a soft surface.

Remove the battery access door and then loosen the screw connecting the green bar-antenna wire to the tie strip at left side.

Remove the three black machine screws at the bottom, and lift the case back; you'll have to unplug the power connector and then the whip-antenna phone plug to actually free the case.

Remove the band-switch knob after releasing the allen head grub screw.

The chassis is held in the case by two screws on the left and by a bracket on the right. It's easier to remove the bracket; take all three screws out of it.

The chassis is now free of the case. Hold the chassis in with one hand and tilt the case back upright. The chassis will come out right side first, until the band-switch shaft clears the left side.
The chassis will stand upright on its own.

Reassembly is the reverse. Don't forget to feed the green bar antenna wire back to the tie strip before closing the back up.

You should probably have a piece of paper on your work space and put the screws and parts you remove in the same pattern as their position on the radio or use some other method to keep all the differant screw sizes straight.

Any further questions, just e-mail me. I just took mine apart, but may have forgotten something.

Unplug the two wires for the chart light. Note that they connect to the strip on the 3rd and 4th pin from the bottom (where the arrows are)...not on the 1st and 2nd (where the 'chart light label is)

Unplug thw two speaker wires; note white on top.

Thanks for the information Greg. I
really appreciate it. I hate working
on printed circut radios cause they are
so jammed in with no room sling a cat.

(Note: No cats were harmed in fixing my radio)

very easy doyle. turn the key selector till you see, of course within the radio at the axes of the selector a little screw you have to take out with an allen tool.
that's all. Be careful with the front knobs.
