I have a 545 purchased for 5 pounds from the local rubbish tip. The problem is a dim trace, does anybody
have any ideas or voltage test point measurements i could make to eliminate whether the CRT is duff.I have checked out a few sites for schematics but i do not want to part with any money at this stage

Hi Clive

I have emailed you the 545 CRT circuit schematic. Voltages are on the schematic. Hope it helps.

Clive,

Be very sure that it is a true-blue Tektronix 545 and not the look-alike compatible clone from Lavoie Labs for which Tektronix won a long-fought lawsuit for patent and copyright infringement in the mid-1970's. The Lavoie scopes were notorious for a dimming trace, somewhat bright when first turned on and gradually dimming to nothing as the scope warmed up. The HV (oops ... HT in your area) transformer was the culprit and replacement with an actual Tektronix transformer was the mandated fix in the U.S. Navy, who had lots of those substandard Lavoie's.
