RCA RADIOLA 18 POWER SUPPLY
5/16/2001 7:52:52 PMJose J Calzada
I own a RCA Radiola 18 that belonged to my grandfather. I still remember how he, as late as 1960, enjoyed listening to this old radio playing on a black horn bakelite speaker.

Some 30 years after that, I got the radiola. The cabinet is almost as new, no nasty scratches or blemishes. The inside of the Radiola is very clean, the tuner and tubes are there and seemingly in working
condition (no open filaments) ...but the power supply is missing!

In this particular model, the power supply was a separate unit -a complex array of transformers, filter reactors and a rectifier tube, mounted on a second chassis- and no one in the family seems to know what became of it.

Does anyone have an idea where could I get an original power supply for this model? Maybe someone has just the contrary of what I have... Or who could build a working replacement? The Radiola 18's power supply provided as many as four different filament tensions and had three choke filters, so it was quite unconventional. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jose

The Radiola 18 Power Supply contains transformer, rectifier, filters ans output choke. Although slightly different you could make the power unit from a Radiola 17 or 33 work. An output choke would have to be added.

Someone may have a power unit. They do show up at swap meets here in the US at low cost. Shipping to Mexico would be the greatest expense.

You could check Play Things of Past, oldradioparts.com . They sell parts removed from these pld radios.
