tube 78 player is dead

anyone have any idea where to find schematics for tube phonographs. this one is an ECI model no. 2, it is a small suitcase looking thing with 2 35Z5's and a 50L6. One of the resistors burned and I cannot tell which value to replace it with.

You may not be able to find a schematic for that. They were very common and made by alot of companies. You could look for similar schematics and choose your own value of resistor. The value may not be that important. However, the tubes don't look right to me.The 35Z5 is a rectifer tube(half-wave) and the 50L6 is the power amp tube.I don't see the preamp tube? Also these don't have transformers, they plug directly into 120vac.Treat it as two units-a record player and an audio amp, many radios had these type amps.charliehamilton@blazemail.com

Hi, Nick! I don't have schematic of that phono amp; but I know many of these simply amplifier circuit.
Tube filaments lights up or not? If filaments are off the burned resistor is probably in series at filament circuit, and is a 200 (180) 5 watts (but a 7 or 10 W type works better) wire type resistor for an A.C. mains of 115 V. (This resistor in series provides to reduce the voltage on filaments at 85 V; 35 for 35Z5 and 50 for 50L6)
If filaments are on, the burned resistor can be placed near electrolytic filter capacitors, and can be a 800-1500 ohm type; not critic; in this case before turning on the amplifier check the electrolytic capacitors and eventually other capacitors on H.V. line for probabile short circuits.
Later, when the amplifier is on, you can measure the voltage at first and at the second electroytic capacitor (or section of double capacitor): difference must not exceed 15-20 V, in case reduce value of this resistor.
(Reducing this resistor increases voltage and power out, but increases AC "HUM".) A voltage of 110-130 V (If there isn't a power transformer which elevate 115 V of AC mains) is generally 0K for 50L6, and it's not critic.
If is another resistor burned, please tell me at what tube and pin (number, down chassis clockwise from the key)is it connected.
I hope to can help you in repair of this phono amp; if problem persist write to me! Happy Xmas! Enrico.
