Philco 40-150 Power Transformer
6/14/1999 8:32:11 PMDave
I just got a Philco 40-150 set that I need a new power
transformer for. The old one had oozed black tar all
over the cabinet. After checking continuity, I found
that the primary winding is open. I have a catalog
from Antique Electronic Supply and I need to
order a new one but....which one? The only number I
have from the old one is a Philco part #: 32-8052N
If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
If more info is needed, let me know....

Hi Dave

The tube filaments in your Philco require 6.3 volts @ 3 amps. You also need a high voltage center tapped winding 500 to 550 volts @ 70 ma will be ok. Most transformers have a 5 volt winding. Do not connect these wires in your radio. AES part #P-T270DX will work if you have room in the radio.

Since new transformers are expensive you may want to look around for another radio that can be used for parts.

I believe this is one of those Philco's where the original transformer was barely large enough for the job. Before connecting power to a new transformer be sure the electrolytic filter caps have been replaced.
