Help, I just bought a Wards Airline Superheterodyne at an antique sale. I am looking for some info in regard to this radio such as when it was built and schematics as it doesn't work.

Hi Richard

Can you find a model number on the radio? If not listing the tube types may help.

: Norm, I found the following number on the radio - OC 702148. I also wrote down the numbers of the tubes, which most happen to be blown.
3 - tubes # 76
2 - tubes # 46
4 - tubes #6D6
1 - tube #80
1 - tube #SPK

Do you know where I cab buy these tubes?

Thanks

RIchard

Tubes can be purchased from Antique Electronic Supply, tubesandmore.com and others. Check antiqueradios.com/resources for other suppliers. I would first check flea markets and swap meets as the price of a set can cost a lot of money.

SPK will be a socket where the speaker plugs in.

Are you sure two tubes are 46 and not 45? I found two Wards radios using those tubes except with 45's, Model #62-132 and #62-137. You may be able to find schematics here on nostalgiaair. After schematics, click "Rider by Original Index".

The Airline radio you have was manufactured for Montgomery Ward by Wells-Gardner & Co. of Chicago. The 0C that procedes the serial number is the W-G chassis number. The schematic is in Riders Vol. 5, Wells-Gardner pages 1-2. Wards used this in several models, including the ones Norm noted. Rider Vol. 5, Montgomery Ward pages 8-10.
