Siemans mid-50's radio
6/7/1999 8:48:36 PMZach Taylor
I recently acquired a Siemans from the mid 50's that I would appreciate a source for a "English" language schematic. The radio is in a large wooden cabinet with two sliding doors covering the dial. It seems to be a multi- band set , but since everything on the dial is in German I'm not that sure. It should have eight tubes. This one only has seven remaining. Any info or suggestions on schematics or any thing else would be appreciated. By the way, I can't find anything that even remotely resembles a model number or indentifier of any kind. Thanks in advance.

Probably it's a kind of "Siemens-Schatulle" (Schatulle means jewels-box), made by Siemens & Halske AG, Germany. Several different models exist:
- SB 700W Schatulle 51 (1950/51)
- H 42 Schatulle (1954/55)
- M 47 Schatulle (1954/55)
- P 48 Kammermusik-Schatulle (1954/55)
- H 52 Schatulle (1955/56)
- M 57 Kammermusik-Schatulle
You can identify them by the tubeset. Normally, tubeset is printed on the back panel.
"Schatulle H42" has 7 tubes: EF80(6BX6):fm-preamp, EC92(6AB4):fm-oscillator&mixer, ECH81(6AJ8):fm-if&am-mixer/am-oscillator, EF89(6DA6):fm&am-if, EABC80(6AK8):fm&am-demodulator/lf-preamp, EL84(6BQ5):Pwr-amp, EM80(6BR5):mag-eye, rectifier is selen.
Waveranges are: "UKW"=fm (87.5-100mc), "KW" or "KURZ"=sw (5.8-18.1mc), "MW" or "MITTEL"=mw (510-1630kc), "LW" or "LANG"=lw (145-350kc). lw-band was also used for wire-transmission (6 channels, on the dial with roman numbers 1 to 6) also tunable with the am knob.
Please read out the remainig tubes, I'll try to get the schematic diagram.
Serial number is stamped rear on the chassis, other indications may be tags on the output transformer or paper tags inside the cabinet or on the chassis.

Do you now know the type of radio you own? I can offer to send you copy of the original service-manual. But sorry - available only in german.
