Zenith Transoceanic

I am a Novice working on cleaning up Transoceanic, tubes are good nothing burnt. leads to Wavemagnet are good as far as top hinge. It works with low volume on all bands until I touch the right hinge on top, then it REALLY works well.
Hope someone can help with problem, don't want to peal back the paper fabric on the top to check leads to wavemagnetic.

You didn't say which TO you have but I can guess it's early one between 47-53. The early ones had steel hinges that rust and do really bad things to the reception. The last ones like the Y600 had brass hinges. You have a few options that you can try. Carefully take the top apart and clean the hinges.. really a dicey job, spray contact cleaner into the hinges and try to clean it as well as you can, use the Wavemagnet and cable which bypasses the hinge problem or a combo of the above. My 49 is rusty and sometimes just a tweak of the hinge fixes it for the time I'm listening. Hope this helps some.

Tom, you will have to carfully peel the paper backing on the opposite side. One of the wires are corroded. Also check for corrosion behind the binding posts on the wavemagnet. Sounds like a G500 or H500. Good luck.
