philco 20-a revival
7/7/1998 9:18:56 PMDave Syer
I am trying to revive a philco 20-a table radio. The radio is in need of refinishing, and is missing the speaker. I downloaded the
schematics from nostalgia air, and while excellent, they are missing the component values and some explanation of the output transformer/choke arrangemet that appears to be part ot the speaker. How can I sub a conventional speaker for the original unit? I have two hammond 125D output transformers with multiple taps. All of the tube filaments appear to be operating, the B+ voltage is present. I am confident that can repair the amplifier secion, however I am unsure as to the condition of the tuner/RF portion. Any comments or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave Syer

Hi Dave

The Philco 20 uses push-pull 71 tubes. Your Hammond 125, I believe, is a universal push-pull 3 watt transformer. A plate to plate load resistance of 5k will work fine. I would use any inexpensive choke 5-10 henries which can carry at least 50ma to replace the speaker field. The total current drawn by the 71's, 24's and 27 will be near 50ma. Good luck, Norm

Hi , All of you

I have a Philco 20 that I picked up at a yard sale for $25.00 CDN . I found this site last fall ,found the diagram, and thought I would print it out when I had time to work on it.
Lo and behold , that wonderful service is no longer availabe . I was really thrilled when I saw it ,but now - - - - ?How can I get the diagram back ?
