Philco radio

Howdy-

I have a Philco lowboy (mothers olde radio- trying to get
operating). I believe it is a Model 86 (circa
1928-29)- deducted from tube match I found on one site.
It is similar to the Model 76, but round speaker hole.
The model and Serial #s have faded on the sticker and
I cannot read them. All the tubes glow except the
2 tubes, number 71A.

Any help most appreciated on finding picture, info on
this model.

Hi Don

Look closely at the center of the 71A tubes to see if you can see the filament glow. They will not be very bright.

Does the radio make any sound, hum? If you can measure voltages check the plate voltage on the 71A's. If you have around 160 volts there at least the choke, speaker field and output transformer are ok. If voltage is reasonable touching the grid of the #27 tube should cause a loud hum. This is a 5 pin tube and the pin by itself is the grid (pin #3).
