unknow AK

I boufht here in Brazil an Atwater Kent, but is impossible to fix it without some help, because it was modified.

It"s a 4 tube radio, and now it has a 180, two 6J5GT and one 6L6G. It has three coils: a large antenna coil, then a very strange and large, in format of an "X" and the third is a "normal" coil of a radio.

The model is one of those with metal box, without speaker inside. There is no model number or another indication except the brand "Atwater Kent Radio".

In the fron panel there are, from the left to the right, the first dial control, then the second (it has two independent variable condensers). There are then the volume control and a reosthat, that has no conections.

There are, too, a selector of headphone or speaker.

It's little information, but it's all that I can tell about. I will be happy for any help, beucase here in brasil these radios are very rare, nobody knows AK here, so the informations about these models are inexistent.

Thanks again for any help!

Martin

Hi Martin

Your Atwater Case may be from a Model 40 series radio but I think someone changed the insides of the radio. The original radio would have #26, #27 and #71A tubes. Atwater Kent went out of business in 1936, about the time your tubes were first used. Next week I'll try to send you some photos to help identify the cabinet.

Nostalgiaair should have Atwater Kent schematics for Models 37, 40 and 46. One of these probably was the original.

:Hello Martin,
I hope you can rebuild your Atwater Kent to its original condition. Many Atwater Kents had a gold emblem with the name on it. Be very carefull with this, don't try and polish it with metal polish such as Brasso. It's really gold plated and you don't want to wear through the plating to the base metal with abrasive polish. Good luck, Don.

Caro Martin

Atenciosamente,
Daniel Pinho
