HARMAN KARDON Citation B

I have a almost fully restored Citation B. Works great! BUT, recently I had a scare. A power resistor opened up, and I THOUGHT I had a ruined output transistor. Unit is working fine, now, but I discovered that these are probably the most elusive transistors on the planet. They are Westinghouse (of all things) and look like big beetles. Does anyone have any idea where to find a pair (or the proper industry number - if any) just in case? This unit, and its mate - the "A" - contain many unique transistors - these units were the first Solid State preamp/amp combo EVER. State of the art 1964.

Philips sells a line of replacement semiconductors identified with ECG numbers. Many Electronics Distributers carry these parts and have the cross reference book.

Hi Derrick, Can you list the part numbers on the transistors, that might help someone identify them. Also try NTE semiconductors at http://WWW.NTEINC.COM/, they specialize in substitute replacements and might have cross references for your transistors. If all else fails and you do need replacements you will have to try and find suitable substitutes, perhaps measure things like current gain from a good one. Good luck, Don Black.

Dear Sirs,

it's incredible to find someone still having HK Citations A & B! I write from Florence- Italy, and very casually catched your mails. So I ask you an help having "missed" a channel of my "B" amplifier now being without his Westinghouses H 430 199 55 transistors (I think a 2n174 type). Could you suggest where can I find this component? And: do you think is still possible to buy an original HK Citation A preamp?
Thanks and best wishes
Massimiliano Conte
