Your RCA 7T1 was made in 1936.. You need more details as to the problem to determine cost to restore the radio. If you apply power to the radio wire a 100 watt light in series with the AC line. The light will act as a fuse. The light should be dim, if bright something is shorted in your radio..

: I was just given an RCA Victor from my grandmother.
: The paper on the inside says it is a 7T1. The case
: is in pretty bad shape - grill cloth shredded, the top
: layer of the case has flecked off in many places,
: especially the top. My grandfather turned it on about
: 15 years ago and it picked up the local AM station,
: but then one of the parts started smoking and they
: shut it down and stored it. Can anyone tell me when
: it was made? Also what I would be looking at to have
: it restored, price-wise. Any advice or information
: would be helpful.
