does anyone have the value of this radio? Also, where could I buy parts for this radio? I have paid 175.00 for this wooden radio and wondering if I am a fool?

Hi Matthew

You can buy parts from Antique Electronic Supply, tubesandmore.com , and others. Usually these old radios do not require much to get working. Post what is wrong with your radio and you should be able to find help.

Hi Matthew, Collectors guide to antique radios lists the RCA 9K2 as worth $100 - $125. Since prices seem to have gone up since it was printed you've probably paid a fair price for your set. If you like it (and it should be a good set) I'm sure you're no fool and will get a lot of pleasure when it's restored. All of these old sets cost what you can find them for, they don't make any more of them. If you need help with it ask away. Do you have the service information, schematic, etc? Good Luck, Don Black.

Hi Matthew, I have a 9k2 and have had it for about 40 years, It is a superb radio when working properly. did you see that it has tin pipes to resonate the speaker cavity? My set is in need of restoration as it is almost all original inside. I also have a parts chassis from a similar model that may have some obscure part you may need. let me know if I can help. BTW, the 9K2 cost $195 new in 1936 I have a picture of it at: members.aol.com/radiomf/webpage1.htm

I have this radio and am looking for info on the original finish on the metal around the window for the bands, and the original grillcloth. Can you help?

Hi,
"Guide to Old Radios" by David and Betty Johnson, list a restored on at $750.00

I have a 9K3 that my wife uses all of the time, and other than one bad cap, and missing tubes, it came to life quickly. The 9K3 was essentially the same unit without the motorized tuning or push-buttons. I only mention that because yours is the same vintage.

At $175, if it were nearly complete, or the cabinet in excellent shape, your price was not all that bad. Consoles have begun to increase in value, so as long as you like the radio is the amount you paid for it so critical if you plan on keeping it around for a while.

There is enough room under the chassis if you need to replace the filter caps, and they are not proprietary units. Suitable replacements can be found at Digi-Key, Allied, and others. As well as the power resistors.

All in all, get the radio working, and let it "speak for itself".

I had one of these-bought it cheap, replaced a few caps
to get it playing and resold for what I had in it when I
ran out of space. This is an EXCELLENT performer--GREAT
sound and excellent sensitivity. I'd have kept it if it
were the 10T model (tombstone). If you have room for it
enjoy it-will reach all over the world.

Stumbled on this thread while looking at other things...realize it might not have anyone looking at it..well so what...

I Had a 1939 RCA Magic brain back in 1967 or so. Kept it quite a few years and it "accidently" got sold.

Our model had a large lever or something that switched between the available bands.

It looked like a last model or or high priced had all sorts of auto tuners that we never set correctly.

any more infor about different models. I hope to find one someday when I have the money and intrest to restore.

MD
