solid cabinet(retired, and new interest in old radios),
tuning condenser pl;ates rubbing=also needs a horn,
was told any spkr w/output xformer is ok but am very
leery about that..(matching output impedences,etc).

Hi Rich

Yes, you got a good deal. I am surprised the tuner plates rub unless someone bent them? They should be made of brass in your radio.

The circuit can be found here on nostalgiaair under schematics. Click on "Rider by Original Index" then RCA and 17.

Any high impedance speaker will work. You can use an 8 ohm speaker with output transformer. The radio would have used a RCA 100 series speaker. By the time of your radio, horns were already obsolete. RCA series 100 speakers cost a lot less horns.

Hi Rich

The 100a speakers go for under $50 even on ebay. At flea markets they go for about $25.
