Your radio will have a padder capacitor. It is used to align the low end of the band. The padder is usually located in the chassis and is larger than trimmers.
Adjust the padder while rocking the tuner back and forth and listening to a station at the low end of the band. At some point the volume will be max.

: Many thanks to all who helped me get this Zenith operating again.
: The output transformer and a few resistors were the cause of the problem.
: Coincidentally, the Rider's tube voltages were incorrect, and this also made troubleshooting difficult.
: The only problem now, is to find out why I have poor reception/sensitivity on the lower end of the AM band.
: Shortwave is excellent and AM over 900 is OK too, but below that, I can barely hear even nearby stations.
: Any suggestions?
