Clarion What?
4/25/1999 6:05:39 PMBill
I recently purchased a large table top cathedral with
three knobs and am trying to identify it and find a
schematic. The Dial is marked 0-100 and the dial plate
is marked Clarion Jr.
Chassis: # 326R
Tubes: 245, 280, 224, 224, 224

Several of the wires are toast so it needs to be rewired
before I can make any attempt at the capacitor blocks.
Ideas for a schematic?

The radio should be a AC-60. I have one of the Jrs with that tube layout and If it has a big filter block at the back on one side about 5 by 5 by 5 and three antenna posts thats what it is. Norm Lear who freqents this list should have a schematic. I got mine from Antique Etelctornic supply in Tempe. There is also a schematic in the schematic section of this site, but I have trouble getting them to print. Good Luck, DWG

Hi

I'll email you the schematic of the Clarion Jr, AC-60. The radio is made by Transformer Corp. of America and has one difference from your tube listing. The schematic shows the output having 2 - 245's. I am sure this is right and the one Dave is talking about as they show a large filter block.

Thanks Guys for the quick response!

The radio that I have only has one "245" tube in the output section

and has a rheostat for the tone control rather than a switch. The filter

block is about 2" by 5" by 3/4" thick and mounted in the center below

the transformer cans which are laying on their side. The three 240's are

mounted in a row, one by each section of the tuner. The 245 & 280

mounted parallel to the three 240's with the 280 to the front of the

radio. I was unable to find the schematic or tube layout that matched

in Rider's Vol 1-8 at my local library so this may be an odd bird.

Any other ideas?

I notice on e-bay that there is a Clarion Junior Tombstone, whose layout looks more like yours. It had a flat top, while AC-60 has a Arched top with the dial offset to one side. Sold on 24 April, but I Don't know if you can still pick up picture, but you could send them an E-mail. The AC -60 has a large filter block in front of the transformer on the left as you look in the back the coils lay on their side in the chassis which is sealed on the botton with a aluminum plate. There is a tranformer in the chassis, but no big block like you describe. As I remember the tombstone was a AC-45. sorry for jumping the gun with poor ID'ing good luck. DWG

Dear friends,
I don't know if you will have my message, when i see date creation of yours.
I bought an AC40 cabinet CLARION and it can only receive short waves. I know than it's possible to receive long wave with a sixth lamp but i don't have schematics for that. Have you please that, or do you know how i could get it ?
With all my thanks.

Bon jour, Stéphane:
This is to let you know you are on the list. That is good news, but the bad news is I haven't a clue how to help you. Sorry,
Lewis
