Have I got good news (and a little bad..)
First thing, the 8950 rf anp is nothing but a ruggedized
6KD6 television sweep tube (valve if you'r a brit)with
a 12 volt filament, and a bigger plate cap. Find 6kd6's
and drop 'em in, and re-wire the filaments from parallel to
series. You don't need bypass capacitors to ground the
middle filament line, the low impedance of the filaments
will kill any stray rf.The only other thing is to pinch
down your plate cap clips so they grip the smaller
6kd6 cap.
The 6LF6 is a better drop-in at 40 watts plate diss.
but is a real bear to find.
Contact R.F.parts. for the scoop and tubes.
If your amp is a typical amp and ties all 3 grids
together, you can improve the amp by fitting Svetlana
EL509's and 9 pin sockets, same as the common TV
6LQ6/6JE6.
The Svetlana EL509's are readily available and NOT
collectors items. THey have 35W diss. like the 8950.
Svetlana and RF parts have cool websites.
RF parts is very reputable, and reasonable,
I've used them. If you want a better challenge, try
instlling octal sockets, and use 6146B's. Drop the
B+ a little, and watch the screen bias, but the 6146B
is also readily available, and designed for RF,- not
televisions.
PS, rf parts has a neat little c-board and all the info,
and pieces to build a cool 250W solid state. Fix the
light bulb amp and sell it.
It's like a wooden hull boat.

DON'T be FOOLED-your 'tube' amp will be there when the rest are DEAD! sure -they're alittle hard to find tubes for -but when you get the RIGHT tube(an NOT butcher up your amp)!! MAN If your amp was designed to put 'other' tubes in -don't ya think the factory would have used them - Some tech. need to get a grip on REAL ---

s. I though that i would let you know you can use 31lq6 in the place of 8950 you will probably have to change the socket on your amplifier
