Request for help in locating a power transformer
4/27/2002 11:17:52 AMLorne Bohn
I've got a Canadian G.E. KM500 table radio and it has a blown power transformer which I understand is quite common with this model. The transformer is one of those with the plates bolted to the chassis and the other half of the core underneath the chassis. According to the schematic, the radio is a 1941-1942 Canadian General Elictric KL 500 or KM 500 or RCA Victor A23. the transformer number is 1091771 (265v. @ 200 ma. w/center tap, 6.3v @ 2 amps.,5v. @ 2 amps.) the size is 3" X 2 1/2" X 7/8" thick(plates). Any
suggestions where I might be able to find one. Best

Hi Lorne

AES, tubesandmore.com , sells power transformers. Prices are high but you can find what's needed. Play Things of Past, oldradioparts.com , prices will be lower but there is a long list to look through.

Be sure of specifications before ordering a transformer. Your radio uses a horizontal mounted transformer. It's unlikely the high voltage winding will require 200 ma? Small table radios usually draw 50-70 ma.
