Or more reliably: If your lettering is in good shape, either scan it to a file in the computer, and take it to a place that has a color laser printer to print the lettering onto clear decal film (available at hobby stores; it is sold under Microscale, Mini-Cal, and others.). Or just have the copy center copy the face of the radio on a color laser printer ontot the decal film. Some copy centers seem to think that a metal radio front is going to scratch the glass of the copier, which is false, but if they do not maintain their copiers very well, the metal face plate might be heavy enough to grind the dust that the copy center people should have removed/controlled beforehand- into the glass. If the person behind the counter is reluctant, don't bother; it takes too long to educate them in basic geology.
: I'm about to restore a Hallicrafter s40B. In order to do this I will have to remove the lettering in order to repaint the front panel. I would like to know if anyone knows where I can get the (I suppose) adhesive lettering to replace the original lettering on the radio.
Try nctotalelectronics.com.
They will silkscreen the original lettering onto
the front panel ( for $$$ of course !.)
They sell paint by mfgr / model no.
I am about to restore an s-40 as well
Good Luck !
