Hi,
I have an old Zenith console radio, the only markings are on the back on the tube location chart, chassis #1281. I would appreciate model info and schematic availability. Thanks!!!

Hi Rod

Any chance the chassis number is 12A1? The 12A1 is a 12 tube radio used in model numbers: 12S550Z, 12S568Z, 12S569E and 12S569Z.

12B1 is also a possibility. A 12 tube Zenith used in models: 12H650, 12H670 and 12H671.

The chassis number looks like 1281, but it has 12 tubes, one of which was bad, a 7C7.
Another guy had suggested it was a 12B2, but that is a phonograph unit.
While I got you here, what is your opinion of replacing paper/wax caps with orange
drops?
I appreciate your time and efforts! Thanks!

Both the 12B1 and 12B2 chassis have 3 - 7C7's. I mentioned 12B1 since you asked about 1281, the B could look like an 8.

Orange drop caps are very good quality. If you are only changing some caps it's best to replace the ones with high voltage across them. Be sure to replace plate to grid coupling caps.
