Polygrid component, what is it?

I am restoring a 20's vintage TRF reciever. The brand is Neodyne by Steinway Radio Co. of Chicago. It has a component that looks like a glass fuse and it is labeled as follows "POLYGRID POLYMER MFG. CORP NY M9"
Any idea what this might be? Also any info on this radio would be nice. Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig

They are called "grid leak resistors". Used at the detector grid. Most range from 1 meg to around 5 but even 8 should be work.

Polymet made lots of mica and paper condensers. 8 megs is high for a grid leak, but if it works, you can use it. Probably 2 to start with.
