Crosley Fiver Jr.

Thank you for the schematic for the Crosley Fiver Jr. 5M3. I'm still having a problem getting it to function. So far I have Recapped it and replaced defective resistors. I have B+, and the tubes test good. IF's appear to be good. However, the only sign of life is a hum when I touch the grid on the audio output tube. I cannot get a reaction from the next tube back (76) or from any other stage. Does Riders or any other source have pointers for this one? Do you have any insights? One problem I did have with the schematic you sent a couple of weeks ago is that the capacitor section of the parts list does not match the numbers on the schematic. Thanks for your ongoing support.

Hi Neal

The 76, detector stage, won't have the same reaction as in most other radios. It's connected directly to an RF coil so won't cause the usuall audio hum.

This is a superhet radio with an oscillator. It's hard to check in your radio but can be heard in a second one. Tune your Crosley to 1000 and you should hear a tone around 1450 in a second radio. This will show the oscillator is operating. Try reversing 6D6 tubes. Even though testing good one may not operate as an oscillator?

You mention having B+, does this mean on pin #2 of all tubes and #3 on 6D6's?
