Tube Testers

I was doing some comparison testing on some 6146b tubes and what I found was a little weird. I tested a group of them on a Dyna-Jet 707 tester and then on my Hickok 752 tester and the Hickok tester said I had 4 of them as bad. The needle went backwards during the gm test. I fired up the two 707s and both read good. Any ideas on this.

Hi Robert, I have two testers also and sometimes one will say a tube is bad and the other one says it is fine. Go figure, I haven't recapped my testers so I believe that curtain tubes might use a weak area in one tester and that section is good in the other. I guess the best tester is the radio if the tube works that's a good tube.LOL Best 2 U, George T

The only good test for a 6146 is in the transmitter. No tester can come close to what is required for that tube. Any test on a transmitter tube is pretty much meaningless.

:Thanks for the input. I do agree that the best way to test a tube is in circuit. I wanted to test the Hickok tester out since I only paid $20.00 for the thing. How does it compare to the tv7/du and the 707 testers?
