Radiola 18 - Can't receive stations
3/7/2002 11:05:03 AMMatthew Stueber
I have a Radiola 18 and a RCA 100A speaker. All of the
tubes light up but I only get a low hum coming from
the speaker even when I select the full range of stations.
I tried another (modern) speaker and got the same low hum.
The radio appears to be in excellent condition. Nothing
visibily wrong with the set. I am thinking that maybe
on or more of the tubes are bad. Anyone out there
had this experience in the past that can help me?

Hi Matthew

Tried to respond to your email but message was returned.

If all tubes are lit they may be ok. Tap your #27 tube. You should hear a ping sound. If you hear this connect an antenna, 10-20 feet of wire, to different sections of the tuner. This will bypass early RF stages which may not be working. You could hear stations but the radio won't be very selective.

Do you have a volt meter? Measure pin #2 on each tube. All must be positive DC voltage.
