::::The Zenith G503 "Universal" is a standard broadcast receiver that has a 1U4 RF stage and a 1L6 converter.
::::For standard broadcast isn't the 1R5 the usual converter choice?
::::Wasn't the 1R5 cheaper because it was a higher-volume tube?
::::I'm under the impression that the 1L6 is a higher bandwidth tube used in radios such as the Transoceanics.
::::Does the 1L6 have a technical advantage over the 1R5 for standard broadcast?

:::I have a Zenith H503 which had a 1L6 (that went into my G500 TO! I replaced with a 1R5 with pin 5 removed. I notice no difference in sound, quality or DXing with the 1R5. I have also used the 1R5 replacement in other broadcast radios with no problems.

::If I recall rightly, the 1L6 was developed for this Zenith receiver. The 1L6 will oscillate at a higher frequency; 1R5 is a different pin-out and may not work in the highest frequency band.

Be careful as pin 5 of the 1R5 has an internal connection to the filament ground. If B+ is being fed to pin 5 of your 1L6 you could short it out.
