These have been high-priced for several years. I blame the "audiophools" who are looking for the nirvana of "warm tube sound".

12AX7's are a staple in most old and new tube guitar amps..and of course the guitar players want the 'vintage' tubes to get the 'vintage' sound....Another reason for the high market prices.

glad that I didn't need more. my old scope has a lot inside. the old thing stopped working years ago. not buying tubes for that boat anchor.

Sounds like an opportunity to make a buck or several... "harvesting" rare tubes from derelict pieces of test equipment.

7025 is a direct substitute for 12AX7
But guitar players buy those too, so they are also pricey.
New Russian and Chinese tubes are marked up because they will sell for double what they are worth.

Here's some more subs - 12AX7WA, 12AD7, 6057, 6681, 7025, ECC83, ECC803
5751 has the same pinout but higher filament current. That is NFG for series string circuits.

Years ago I bought a couple handfuls of 5963's for $1 each. They have the same pinout but less gain, like a 12AU7.
