Both of you were right. If a person had to change tubes (as a last resort) the socket wiring would have to be changed. 1 & 2 would have to be reversed AND 5 & 7 would have to be reversed. I'm NOT looking forward to it but if I have to change the wiring to keep something working I supposed I would do it(depending on the set) At least I would attempt it. How far I got, that's another question. Some sets are so crowded that they have to be taken apart a lot just to change a few wires(even condensers & resistors). Thanks for the help! Wires don't go bad, just condensers & resistors in TIGHT places! Ha.

Are you thinking of the 50B5 vs. 50C5? Both tubes are relatively common and easy to get, last time I looked.

Austin..Just a helpful hint---Try not to start a new thread when you are continuing to respond to one you already started...As with the 50C5/B5 thread..It helps us to follow the replies better to help you.
