01A

I'm restoring a Crosley model 52 three-tube (all 01As) regen.
I need a 01A, which sells for $20 at vacuumtubesinc.
The listing has an ST suffix. What does this mean?
Also, I have ~200 tubes, some of which I could swap for the 01A.
Does a swap site exist?

Thanks,
Steve

01A is a "shoulder type" (ST) tube, which some people refer to as "Coke-bottle tubes" which roughly describes their profile. Earlier (pre-1932)versions of the tube were in a "balloon" glass envelope and had a different alphanumerical designation. But they were the same tube electrically.

CV,
So, whatever the envelope shape, all will fit the same socket?

Thanks,
Steve

Yes.

Best to buy used '01As - often available for around $10+ at antique radio meets. '01As have a thoriated, directly heated cathode, so weak ones can be rejuvenated on a tube tester by running the filament at several volts above rated for a few hours.

I have a small stash of '01As. If you post your inventory of tubes, maybe something will catch my eye.
