Emerson 604 Info. Help please.

Hi There,
I have recently picked up what I believe to be a 1949-50 Emerson Radio and Phonograph Corporation N.Y. U.S.A boat anchor. It has a "The Canadian Fairbanks - Morse Co. LTD Montreal" Model 604 radio amp. And a Webster Chicago Corporation model 100-29 Phonograph. I would appreciate any and all information I could get. Was this common for all components to be from a different company?
All searches so far have turned up nothing. Thanks for reading.

It's surprising that an Emerson product would have electronics built by anyone else in it. As far as I know, Emerson and Fairbanks-Morse were head-on competitors. The "different" turntable brand is less odd, although Webster-Chicago was better known as an early tape recorder manufacturer than for its other products.

Could this have been a nice Emerson cabinet that had a shelled-out receiver which some previous owner had replaced with a Canadian Fairbanks-Morse chassis?
If so, the trick will be ID'ing the chassis model, since often all of the set model number info was on the cabinet, not the chassis.

Take a look at Emerson Models 603 and 605 in the Resources section of this site. These are both radio-phonograph consoles but they are very different from each other. Do either of these consoles resemble your Model 604?

Model 603 doesn't list the make of phonograph changer used, but Model 605 lists Webster as an "alternate" supplier. So chances are your changer is original to the Emerson console, but someone has retrofitted it with a different radio chassis.

When I entered "Emerson 604" into the "Universal Schematic Finder" program the result was a reference to Emerson 604A.....available in Sams Set 40 Folder 5.

That's where the plot thickened.

I dug out that Sams folder and the Emerson 576A (ch. 120069A) is what it documented.

Sooooo....is this your Emerson ? If so, let us know and I can send you the info.

: Hi!
Here is what I think you have. Here is a Skydrive link. Copy and paste it in your browser.

This is from the Radio College of Canada Supplement 22. I think if you research Webster-Chicago chassis number 100, you will find the turntable info.
