On my Philco 95, with spkr unplugged I have over 250 v. at spkr socket. With spkr plugged up voltage go to about 150. voice coil, spkr output xmfr check out ok [with ohmeter] Hear no sound whatsoever. Comments??

On this set the speaker field coil also serves as the B+ filter choke. When the speaker is unplugged, B+ is cut off at the first filter capacitor; 250 VDC is about what it should be. When the speaker is plugged in, so is the filter choke. Voltage goes down to 150 VDC because something "downstream" of the choke on the B+ bus is loading it down. A prime suspect is that the second electrolytic filter cap is leaky; you could try disconnecting this cap and see if the voltage pops up to normal. If that's not it, it's just legwork to find out what is pulling down B+ (i.e., unsolder stuff hanging off the B+ bus one thing at a time). Could be a fault in the audio output section since that's what uses the most power in the set. Did you check that the set has its correct tubes and that they are plugged into the correct sockets?

BTw, fixing the B+ loading problem may or may not make your set operate (it may have compound problems) but it needs to be fixed first before you can get any further in troubleshooting.

Yes correct tubes are in correct socket. What volue of ohms do I use in place of the spkr voice coil so I can use a PM spkr? I have test spkr with output xmfr, B+ at center wire, wire on each side of it to 45 plates

According to the schematic, 3200 ohms. 20 ohms. 30 watts or better assuming a B+ current of 90 mA.

Correction: 3200 ohms, 30 watts or more.
