Hello gentlemen,

I am about to start to restore this radio.

All of the battery and AC power wires have been cut off.

I want to restore it to AC power operation. There are three wires that seem to be for AC operation, (3), one seems to be a resistance wire. Do I need to add a 300 ohm resistor in the line circuit to operate this radio?

Explanation on this power connection is appreciated.

Also, can someone give me the tube line up as I cannot read anything on the tubes and the schematic is too blurred to tell.

Much appreciated,

Mitch

That 3rd wire is a filament dropping resistor that was wire wound in the line cord. You would need a resistor around 20 watts mounted in the radio. The tube line up is 1Q5 = Audio output. 25Z6 = rectifier. 1H5 = detector.
1A7 = converter.
1N5 = IF amp. 1N5 = RF amp.
There is a trick to use an AC diode and a lower wattage and value resistor. Works well less heat.

What is the trick with the diode and the resistor?

Hi Mitch,
You could dump the hot resistor if you use a 117Z4GT in place of the 25Z6 and rewire the socket.

Mitch,
The Beitman schematic is a lot clearer than the Riders:

Thank you everyone,

I have DJVU and did download the 1941 info. Schematic is much better.
