In my case a double unit had failed and I linked two similar tuning caps together. You need to find tuning caps of similar value, the number of plates is an indication. Also they need to turn in the same direction as the originals so that the knobs will have the correct markings for the cap position.
Most of these old radios are forgiving so that close replacements should work.

:I have done it successfully. BT tuning caps have high failure rates of the pot metal frames. Due to that good used BT caps are hard to find.
