broken ultra fine wire repair /antenna coil
11/10/2013 1:05:21 AMChris
Hello all ...I have a couple radios that have the antenna coil on wooden dowel form and the very fine wire is broken ...arghhhh...anyways assuming I can find both ends....,how do you solder/reconnect/splice these very fine wires..? Would you use another wire and make pigtail coils on each end ???Or would you tin one of the wires and then try and attach ? I don't want to have to completely rewind the coil... Any info much appreciated..

I would use a small knife like an Exacto knife, carefully scraping the ends to be rejoined on top of some scrap wood as a base.

Then I would tin each end and reattach.

Hard to do but with practice it can be done.

:Hi, If you don't have enough wire to work with you can always take off one winding to give you something to work with. You then can scrape the coating off or try some Acetone to remove it. I generally tie a knot and then solder. Put some regular tape under and over your repair to insulate it for the other wires. Or you can get like a birthday candle an put a drop of hot wax under your repair and put your repair into the wax before it dries. I rewound one a couple weeks ago and it wasn't to bad. I couldn't find one of the ends. Good Luck, George T

Try a regular aspirin tablet, drop some water on it, & set the wire's end in the dissolved aspirin, and carefully rub off the shellac insulation, with a soft toothpick.
Please practice on a similar wire beforehand.
Good luck
